The Utah Stoneware GE300 IMP contains 20 % impalpable grog 0-0.125 mm, as fine as flour. This is the version of Utah black reserved for detail: modelled portraits, finely thrown pieces, surfaces that must stay soft to the touch while benefiting from reduced drying shrinkage. Type: Utah black stoneware, 20 % impalpable black grog 0-0.125 mm. Firing range: 1000-1220 °C. Colour: Purple when wet, metallic blue to black once fired. Shrinkage: 5 % drying, 1.3 % at 1000 °C, 4.5 % at 1220 °C. Water absorption: 10.4 % at 1000 °C, 7.5 %...

  • Specific feature: Black grog melting into the body, no light speckles.
  • Packaging: Ready-to-use 10 kg plastic-wrapped block.
  • Uses: Portraits, fine modelling, throwing, soft surfaces.

Wedge the clay before shaping, then dry slowly and evenly, away from draughts. Adapt the firing curve to the volume and thickness of your pieces, and always test the clay-slip-glaze combination before production. Store the block away from frost and drying out.
