The Utah Stoneware GE300 CHF is a structural black stoneware loaded with 40 % fine grog 0-0.5 mm. What sets this clay apart: the grog is black too, so it melts into the body instead of speckling the surface with light dots as on a classic grogged stoneware. Firing takes the piece from metallic blue to deep black. Type: Utah black stoneware, 40 % fine black grog 0-0.5 mm. Firing range: 1000-1220 °C. Colour: Purple when wet, metallic blue to black once fired. Shrinkage: 5 % drying, 1.3 % at 1000 °C, 4.5 % at 1220 °C. Water absorption:...

The Utah Stoneware GE300 CHF is a structural black stoneware loaded with 40 % fine grog 0-0.5 mm. Firing takes the piece from metallic blue to deep black.

  • Shrinkage: 5 % drying, 1.3 % at 1000 °C, 4.5 % at 1220 °C.
  • Water absorption: 10.4 % at 1000 °C, 7.5 % at 1220 °C.
  • Specific feature: Black grog melting into the body, no light speckles.
  • Packaging: Ready-to-use 10 kg plastic-wrapped block.
  • Uses: Throwing, sculpture, modelled portraits, contemporary work.

Wedge the clay before shaping, then dry slowly and evenly, away from draughts. Adapt the firing curve to the volume and thickness of your pieces, and always test the clay-slip-glaze combination before production. Store the block away from frost and drying out.
